Since 2012, the Network of Academic Societies (hereinafter – NAS) has been organizing regular meetings to discuss current issues and exchange knowledge between representatives of academic institutions in the field of environmental, water, land, and energy management. The aim of these meetings is to develop measures to improve the management of natural resources through science and education. The NAS provides universities with the opportunity to cooperate with international and regional experts, to develop and improve educational courses, and to train teaching staff in new approaches and tools. International development partners, such as USAID and SDC, in turn, assist in developing unified training and educational materials to be introduced in different universities – NAS members – to ensure a unified approach in building capacities of future water managers in the region.     

NAS activities are coordinated by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) with the support of development partners such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the European Union (EU) and the World Bank (WB). In addition to offline meetings, the NAS is supported by the Community of Practice electronic platform (https://www.riverbp.net/community_of_practice/profile/about/), which is a virtual space for sharing knowledge, hosting training and research materials, and building a community of experts in water and related fields.

Meeting format: Hybrid format using Zoom platform. The meeting will be held in Russian with simultaneous translation into English.

Organizers: USAID Central Asia’s Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment Activity and the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (hereinafter - CAREC).  

Objectives of the NAS meeting:

1. Possibility to integrate developed new training courses and academic programs aimed at training specialists in the field of water diplomacy.

2. Exchange of experience on new scientific research and technologies in water resources management.

3. Opportunities to involve women and youth in water issues through participation in projects and programs.

Expected Participants: 

• Representatives of CA universities;

• Representatives of the USAID Regional Mission for Central Asia;

• USAID Central Asia’s Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment Activity Team;

• The CAREC team.
