February 24, 2017, Executive Director of CAREC, Dr. Iskandar Abdullaev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Makhmadsharif Khakdodov and Chairman of the Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Legislative Chamber Majlisi Oli, Mr. Latif Rustam Barot met in the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RT. The meeting also attended by employees and members of CAREC Board of Governors.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the draft of the Roadmap on cooperation with parliamentarians and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Central Asian countries on issues of ecology and environmental protection and ways of effective cooperation in the framework of CAREC projects.
Dr. Abdullaev, Executive Director of CAREC, told about the activities of the organization: in Central Asia, and in Tajikistan. Representative of CAREC in Tajikistan, one of the first in the region, was opened on January 14, 2002, in Dushanbe. It is intended to follow the mandate of the organization, to promote the work of the centre at the national level, taking into account national interests, supporting regional dialogue.
In particular, the parties discussed the possibility of involvement in assisting in the framework of the "Water for Sustainable Development", as well as preparation of new legislation in the field of environmental and water resources management, and capacity building of environmental agencies of Tajikistan.
In conclusion, talking about the possibilities of future cooperation and plans for 2017, the parties agreed to hold joint activities of national, regional and international level on the impact of climate change on glaciers in Tajikistan, increasing the capacity of government employees on environmental education and regional processes. Mr. Makhmadsharif Khakdodov particularly highlighted the importance of these meetings, and Mr. Latif Rustam Barot expressed readiness to assist CAREC activities in Tajikistan to complete the preparation of the Environmental Code.
CAREC meetings with representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs and parliamentarians have already taken place in Astana, Ashgabat and Tashkent.
