L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University scientist presented the results of the research on drinking water treatment and wastewater reuse to leading US companies


Kulyash Meiramkulova, Director of the Research Institute "Environment and Water Management" at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, was one of 180 candidates to successfully pass the selection process for the SABIT Program, which is organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Professor K. Meiramkulova of ENU was part of a group of 16 specialists from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.  She presented the results of the university's projects on drinking water treatment and wastewater reuse to leading companies in the United States. Also, when visiting municipal wastewater treatment plants in Washington, D.C., Austin, Texas, and surrounding areas.

The special significance of the work was demonstrated by participation in workshops and university presentations at the largest industry exhibition and conference on water issues: WEFTEC -2024 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

During the visit delegation studied the experience of advanced water filtration and wastewater treatment plants, familiarizing itself with both standard treatment methods and innovative technologies used in the USA.

Among the sites of scientific and practical interest were:

  1. Alex Renew company;
  2. Baltimore City Department of Public Works: Ashburton Filtration Plant and Back River Wastewater Treatment System;
  3. Maryland Environmental Service: Liberty County Wastewater Treatment System;
  4. Austin Water: Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment System and Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Center;

Participation in the SABIT program provided a unique opportunity to exchange experience and establish professional ties, contributing to the introduction of advanced water management technologies in the scientific and educational activities of the Eurasian National University.
