On September 15, in Ashgabat, the USAID Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment Activity hosted the 3rd National Intersectoral Committee meeting with officials from Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Energy, Education, Agriculture and Environment, as well as the State Committee for Water Management. More than 20 participants discussed methods for encouraging more intersectoral planning to enable improved water use and climate change resilience in the country.
The Activity shared the results achieved in the past year in the areas of education, capacity building with small basin councils, afforestation work in the Dashoguz region, and automated water metering systems for the Karakum River and the Tuyamuyun Hydroelectric Complex. Participants discussed continuing challenges to water management in Turkmenistan and their respective visions for improving cooperation between sectors and ministries.
