Central Asia – On 5 March 2024, the inception meeting of the regional project “Climate Sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia” was held online. 
The meeting participants were presented with the goals and objectives of the project, as well as the main stages of implementation and planned results.

Additionally, concepts and methods for training water sector specialists in universities in Central Asia and Europe were presented during the meeting. Universities shared their experiences in preparing qualified personnel for the water management sector and identified areas for improvement. The role of the Network of Academic Community (NAS) as a platform through which the project will be implemented was particularly emphasized. Presentations were made by representatives of the following universities - NAS members: Al - Farabi Kazakh National University, Kyrgyz National Agrarian University named after. K. I. Scriabin, Kyrgyz State Technical University named after. I. Razzakov, Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A.Niyazov, “Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers” National Research University, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich.

The “Climate Sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia” project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC).

The project is being implemented as part of the "Green Central Asia" initiative of the German Society on International Cooperation (GIZ) and aims to enhance the capacity of water management organizations responsible for water resource management at national and transboundary levels to effectively address water-related issues induced by climate impacts. According to the project's objectives, educational and methodological materials on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) will be developed, taking into account climate risks. In partnership with CAREC, the project plans to conduct capacity-building activities for basin organizations at various levels, familiarizing water sector specialists with practical IWRM tools.
