CENTRAL ASIA (September 30, 2022 ) – On September 30, the USAID Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment Activity held the 13th WEFE Nexus online lecture in cooperation with the USAID Power Central Asia Activity.

This edition was focused on the Talimarjan reservoir, one of the largest artificial reservoirs in Uzbekistan that plays a key role in the water supply of the Kashkadarya region. Developed in the 1960s to provide irrigation to the Kashkadarya region for growing wheat and cotton, the reservoir has aged and become inefficient over the interceding decades and its related pumping stations are the largest consumer of electricity in the country, leading many water and energy experts to ask how the facility can be modified for improved energy efficiency.

The speakers of the lecture noted the reservoir’s continuing importance to region and shared the results of a recent energy efficiency study that the Uzbek government will use as a roadmap to upgrade the Tallimarjon Reservoir in the coming years.
