The L.N.Gumilev Eurasian National University hosted a presentation of a documentary film and a panel discussion on the topic "Challenges of Climate Change for Kazakhstan" held together with the German Embassy in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Welcoming the participants of the meeting, Rector of the Eurasian National University Yerlan Sydykov noted that ENU participates in the annual ratings on sustainable development, has established a Foresight and Sustainable Development Center, and has adopted a Sustainable Development Policy. A number of projects are underway with foreign universities and foreign companies in the field of technology development, dissemination of experience, and training of specialists in the field of "green economy". In particular, the projects "Green Economy" and "Treasurewater" are being implemented, scientific research is being conducted, the master's degree program "Green energy technologies" has been launched in cooperation with Eni corporate university, "Green Energy management" summer school is operating, etc.
German Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan Monika Iversen spoke about the universal efforts to adapt to climate change and the importance of international cooperation in the field of low-carbon development, the current global environmental agenda, as well as Germany's experience in environmental protection and opportunities for strengthening energy cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany."Our society and our universities are facing new challenges related to global warming, which it affects every region, every country. In this regard, there is a need to consolidate our resources, potential, personnel and efforts aimed at practical solutions.
Today, our colleagues include experts, specialists who deal with this topic from the perspective of their scientific fields - environmentalists, economists, financiers, lawyers, international experts. And I am sure that the discussions that will unfold today will be interesting and effective," Ye. Sydykov summed up.
