OSCE Regional Task Force on Education for a Just and Inclusive Energy Transition in Central Asia Visits Satbayev University

Almaty, Kazakhstan (May 23, 2025) — As part of the Kick-off meeting of the OSCE Regional Task Force on Education for a Just and Inclusive Energy Transition in Central Asia, participants visited Satbayev University to learn about the university's laboratories and experience in the field of renewable energy.

Representatives from ministries, universities, energy companies, and international organizations were introduced to the laboratories of the Department of Energy at the Institute of Energy and Mechanical Engineering, including:

  • a laboratory for the production of electric vehicle charging stations

  • a laboratory for the study of electromechanical processes

  • a VR laboratory for simulating the assembly of solar panels and wind turbines.

In addition, the Department of Energy presented several of its projects focused on workforce development and advancing renewable energy technologies.

"Education must not only be relevant, but also ahead of its time. The initiative that brings us together today is dedicated to the principles of sustainable development — an issue of great importance across the globe. As a university and a part of society, we are committed to these values and ready to contribute," said Raisa Uskenbayeva, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Satbayev University.

The visit concluded on a positive note and marked an important step toward strengthening collaboration between educational institutions and key stakeholders in the energy sector.

"Today clearly demonstrated that a just and inclusive energy transition in Central Asia is both possible and destined for success," emphasized Giulia Manconi, Senior Energy Security Adviser at the OSCE Secretariat. "I am truly inspired by the level of engagement towards renewable energy development in the region’s universities and the potential shown through their scientific and educational initiatives."

The visit was jointly organized by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in cooperation with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), as part of the OSCE project "Promoting Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Energy Sector in Central Asia".
