This training is organized within the framework of the USAID Regional Water and Environment Project and the Blue Peace Central Asia (BPCA) Initiative, funded by Switzerland.
Training Concept: Training for Trainers on Water Diplomacy and International Water Law
The event is partnered by the International Secretariat for Water (Canada). Within Component 1 – Capacity Building and Education, the USAID Regional Water and Environment Project initiated the development of a full course on Water Diplomacy and International Water Law for undergraduate and graduate students in universities across Central Asian countries. The course includes 15 hours of theoretical lessons and 30 hours of seminar sessions, valued at 5 credits. The course content was developed in collaboration with members of the Academic Community Network (ACN).
Objective of the Training for Trainers (ToT):
To prepare a cohort of instructors who will implement this course in Central Asian universities, contributing to the training of future water diplomacy specialists capable of promoting regional cooperation in Central Asia.
Training Objectives:
Provide instructors with conceptual foundations to understand the political aspects of water and the dynamics of cooperation development.
Equip instructors with practical tools related to water dispute management and mediation.
Teach instructors to understand the key international legal frameworks relevant to water resources management.
Collect feedback and comments from instructors on the course (if any) for its final refinement.
Provide a set of teaching materials to support instructors in delivering the course.
Training Concept:
The training is designed as an interactive program combining theoretical sessions, practical exercises, case studies, and group discussions. Participants will engage in simulations of transboundary water negotiations, dispute resolution exercises, and analysis of international legal instruments to develop skills for both teaching and practical application of water diplomacy and law.
