On September 15 in Ashgabat, the USAID Regional Water and Environment Project held the 3rd meeting of the National Intersectoral Committee (NIC) with representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Energy, Education, Agriculture, and Environment, as well as the State Committee for Water Management. Over 20 participants discussed methods to promote more intensive intersectoral planning to improve water resources use and enhance climate resilience in the country.
Participants shared the results achieved over the past year in the areas of education, capacity building of Small Basin Councils, afforestation work in the Dashoguz region, and automated water accounting systems for the Karakum River and the Tuyamuyun Hydropower Complex. They also discussed existing challenges in water resources management in Turkmenistan and shared their vision for improving collaboration between sectors and ministries.
