The “Ecoforum Kazakhstan” Association has opened nominations for the Dmitry Tereshkevich Award. The award covers all five countries of Central Asia. Nominations are accepted until April 22, 2024.
The Tereshkevich Award has been held annually since 2017. Its goal is to support the activities of young environmental activists and raise the profile of environmental work among youth. The award was established in memory of Dmitry Tereshkevich, a well-known environmental activist in Central Asia.
Who Can Participate?
Representatives of civil society working in the fields of environmental protection and sustainable development in Central Asian countries can nominate their colleagues who are actively addressing environmental issues in one of these countries or the region as a whole. Self-nomination is also allowed.
Who Can Nominate Candidates?
Both registered non-profit organizations and informal groups, as well as individuals.
Must have at least three years of experience in environmental protection and promoting a sustainable lifestyle in one of the Central Asian countries.
The full list of requirements is available in the Regulations, which can be found here. The electronic nomination form can be accessed here.

Must have been actively involved in environmental protection and promoting a sustainable lifestyle for at least three years.
Must hold citizenship or resident status in one of the Central Asian countries.

The competition results will be announced on the social media accounts of Ecoforum Kazakhstan: Facebook, Instagram, and Telegram. The award ceremony will take place during the Central Asian Climate Change Conference, scheduled for May 27–29 in Almaty.
Winners will receive a bronze Tereshkevich Award statuette and a diploma. Last year, the award ceremony was held on June 5 in Dushanbe.
Starting in 2024, the award also includes the Tereshkevich School for Youth Environmental Activism — a free online course where more experienced environmental activists share knowledge and experience with newcomers. The award and the school are organized and funded by colleagues and friends of Dmitry Tereshkevich. This year, the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) provides organizational support for the award ceremony.
