Roundtable on “Smart” Agriculture: Technologies and Benefits for Central Asia

The USAID Regional Water and Environment Project conducted analyses of the agricultural sector in Central Asian countries, with a focus on the adoption of innovative approaches in the agricultural sector.

The analyses conducted will be used to develop recommendations for investment projects aimed at promoting innovative, climate-adapted agriculture, with a focus on efficient water use, broader adoption of water-saving technologies, and the use of alternative energy.

During the online meeting, experts will share the results of the analyses conducted in the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

The meeting will place special emphasis on issues such as water security, degradation of water and land resources (including soil erosion, soil salinization, sedimentation resulting from soil degradation in watersheds, etc.), the relationship between agricultural productivity and water use efficiency, the role of the agricultural sector in meeting certain national CO₂ emission reduction commitments, and other related topics.
