Regional Celebration of Syr Darya River Day

Today, in Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan, the USAID Regional Water and Environment Project held the regional celebration of Syr Darya River Day, marking the final event in the series of River Day activities that began in late August. Representatives from all five Central Asian countries attended the event to participate in discussions on challenges and solutions for improving water quality and water use in the Syr Darya River.

Student winners of national essay and drawing competitions on water topics were awarded in recognition of the important role the younger generation will play in the future of water resources management. USAID also handed over equipment to the public association “Aral Tenizi” in Aral, Kazakhstan, which will be used to clean more than 30 small lakes and fishing areas utilized by local communities.
