The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the University of Arizona are developing a roadmap for cooperation that includes organizing joint seminars, training courses, and internships for Kazakhstani specialists; developing and adapting hydrological models to Kazakhstan’s specific conditions; and implementing joint projects aimed at sustainable water resources management in the context of climate change.
Earlier this year, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov met with University of Arizona President Suresh Garimella to discuss potential areas of cooperation.
“We are always open to international cooperation in the field of professional education, training, and capacity building for existing specialists. For example, the Kazakh National University of Water Management and Irrigation in Taraz offers a dual-degree programme in partnership with leading Hungarian universities, while organizations under the Ministry work closely with their counterparts in China, the United States, and the Netherlands,” said Talgat Momyshev, Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The University of Arizona already has a presence in Kazakhstan through its partnership with M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University, with which it jointly implements a dual-degree programme and several research projects.
