As part of World Water Day, the USAID Regional Water and Environment Project, together with the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the National Research University “TIIIMSKH”, is organizing a scientific essay competition.
Objectives of the Competition:
Essay Competition for University Students in Uzbekistan: “Water for Peace 2024”
Participants:
The competition is open to bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD students of universities in Uzbekistan studying water resources, ecology, agriculture, or energy.
Essay Requirements:
Main theme: “Water for Peace”
Subtopics to focus on:
The role of regional cooperation in Central Asia for improving transboundary water resources management.
Reforms in water resources management in Uzbekistan aimed at achieving the SDGs.
International experience in transboundary water resources management and its applicability in Central Asia.
Promotion of innovative solutions, including digital technologies, for efficient use and conservation of water resources in Uzbekistan.
World Water Day as an opportunity to raise public awareness about sustainable water use.
Structure and Format:
Include: title page, table of contents, abbreviations, introduction, main body, conclusion (findings and recommendations), references, and appendices (if any).
Essays must be written in Uzbek or Russian, using Times New Roman, font size 14, line spacing 1.15, and not exceed 10 pages of text (excluding title page, table of contents, abbreviations, references, and appendices).
By submitting, authors agree to allow the Project to use their essay for any purpose, and the Project retains rights to distribute it.
Essays not aligned with the theme or failing to meet the requirements will be rejected.
Submission Process:
Submit essays via email to ilkhom.nazarov@tetratech.com (cc: ard.wave.info@tetratech.com and sayyora.azimova@tetratech.com) with the subject line “Scientific Essay Competition”.
Essays must be in Word format.

Evaluation:
Winners will be selected through expert evaluation by a commission of at least 5 members, including representatives from the Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan, NRU TIIIMSKH, and the Project.
Evaluation criteria include:
Relevance and significance of the topic
Alignment with chosen theme/subtopic
Authoritativeness of sources, level of analysis, and critical thinking
Quality of conclusions and recommendations
Neat presentation and formatting
Clarity and logical flow
Relevance to the objectives of the competition
Proper citation
Announcement of Results and Awards:
Results will be communicated to each participant via available channels.
First, second, and third place winners will be awarded.
All participants will receive certificates and souvenirs; winners will receive prize sets and certificates.
Details of the award ceremony will be provided later.
Deadline: February 29, 2024.
Essays received after the deadline or via other channels will not be accepted.
