Central Asian Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2024): “Linking Climate Goals to Action: Turning Ambitions into Reality”

In 2024, CACCC-2024 will focus on critical issues for Central Asia, including water, energy, food security, and environmental sustainability in the context of climate change.

Date: May 27–29, 2024
Location: Almaty, Kazakhstan

The Central Asian Conference on Climate Change is set to become a significant milestone in the ongoing regional climate discourse.

CACCC-2024 is expected to bring together various stakeholders, including experts and practitioners from multiple sectors.

Participants will be informed about progress in climate change mitigation and adaptation in Central Asian countries, including reporting under the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF). The conference will also discuss cross-sectoral initiatives aimed at increasing climate resilience, climate finance mechanisms, and platforms for regional and international cooperation on climate issues.

Key topics of CACCC-2024:

  • Progress, challenges, and gaps in the implementation of climate commitments by Central Asian countries
  • Governance and financing mechanisms for implementing sectoral strategies at national and local levels, and existing platforms for regional coordination and climate cooperation
  • Potential for regional cooperation in climate adaptation, achieving carbon neutrality, energy transition, and security
  • Challenges and opportunities for reducing climate-related disaster risks
  • Sustainable management of water and land resources, and implementation of activities under the “Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program in the Aral Sea Basin, Additional Financing (CAMP4ASB AF)” project
  • Innovations in managing macro-fiscal and financial risks considering climate change, and leveraging opportunities, innovations, and financing for the transition to a “green” economy/carbon neutrality

CACCC-2024 will focus on reviewing and enhancing practical climate initiatives being implemented in Central Asia, aiming to strengthen support for governments and development partners, the scientific community, the private sector, and the wider public in turning climate ambitions into reality.

The Central Asian Conference on Climate Change (CACCC-2024) is organized by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) under the project “Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program in the Aral Sea Basin, Additional Financing (CAMP4ASB AF)” and the “Climate Risk Management in Central Asia” program of GIZ.

The CAMP4ASB AF project is implemented by CAREC in cooperation with ICWC, with financial support from the World Bank and the Green Climate Fund.
